What I help with

Real problems, clearly explained, actually fixed.

OS installs & setup

Fresh installs, upgrades, and migrations for Windows and macOS. Your apps, your files, your way — without losing your stuff.

Microsoft Office help

Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive. Installs, activations, formula help, templates, and the “why won’t this print” mysteries.

Email & service troubles

Locked out? Password reset loops? Gmail, Outlook, Apple, Yahoo — I'll get you back in and keep you there with a plan.

File recovery

Deleted, corrupted, or lost files from drives, SD cards, and USB sticks. Honest assessment first — no false promises.

Hardware repair & upgrades

Failing drives, slow machines, dead fans, RAM upgrades, SSD swaps. Make your computer feel new again, for a lot less than new.

Custom PC builds

Tell me your budget and what you actually do on a computer — gaming, video editing, just-need-it-fast. I'll spec the parts, build it, install everything, and hand you a tuned machine.

Home networking

Wi-Fi dead zones, slow speeds, mesh setups, wired drops. I'll figure out why it's flaky and get it working in every room — including the one with the smart TV.

Home security & smart home

Cameras, doorbells, smart locks, hubs that don't talk to each other. I'll help you pick what's right (no upsell), install it, and show you how it actually works.

On-call availability

A tech emergency shouldn't mean a week-long wait. Call or text 503-730-2400 — I'll tell you honestly when I can help and what it'll run.

Don't see it on the list? Ask me anyway — if it's tech-related, I can probably help.

Service area Serving Portland, OR and the wider metro — including NE, SE, NW, and SW Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, and Gresham. Most jobs are on-site; remote help is available when it'll save you time and money.

About Mike

I'm the tech guy your family wishes they had on speed dial.

I'm Mike — married 13 years, two kids, and a lifelong tinkerer. I built my first PC at 14 and never stopped. I started PDX Techs because too many friends and neighbors were either getting jerked around by big-box repair shops or just giving up on tech they paid good money for. I promise to talk to you like a person, explain what I find in plain English, and only do the work that actually needs doing. No upsells, no jargon, no surprises.

Free community talks

Helping our neighbors stay sharp in an AI-scam world.

There's a lot to be wary of online right now — AI-generated scams, fake "grandkid" calls, phishing texts that look perfectly legit, AI-written messages from people who aren't real. It's a lot for anyone, and especially exhausting if this isn't the world you grew up with.

I run free, in-person sessions at community spaces — libraries, residences, neighborhood associations, churches, anywhere folks gather — covering plain-language stuff that actually helps:

  • How to tell when a call, text, or email is really who it claims to be
  • What AI can and can't fake yet, and how to spot the giveaways
  • Common scams making the rounds locally, and the patterns behind them
  • A few simple habits that make you a much harder target
  • A printed take-home sheet so nothing gets lost when the session's over

No slides full of fluff, no upselling, no scare tactics. Just honest, hands-on help. Sessions usually run 30–45 minutes plus questions.

If you run a place where this would help your folks, send me a note and we'll find a date — I'll bring everything.

Set up a session Mention “community talk” in your message and I’ll get back to you with options.

FAQ

Common questions about Portland tech support.

If yours isn't here, just ask — happy to talk through it before you commit to anything.

How much does tech support cost in Portland?

$75/hour with a 1-hour minimum. On-site visits in the Portland metro add a flat $25 trip fee. Parts are at cost — no markup, with receipt. Every job is quoted before any work starts.

What parts of the Portland metro do you serve?

All of Portland (NE, SE, NW, SW), plus Beaverton, Tigard, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, Gresham, and surrounding Portland-metro suburbs. If you're nearby and not sure, just ask.

Do you offer same-day or emergency tech support?

Whenever I can. PDX Techs is on-call by phone and text — if I'm available I'll either fix it over the phone or come out the same day. If I can't, I'll tell you upfront so you can plan.

Can you build a custom PC for me in Portland?

Yes — gaming, video editing, or a fast everyday machine. Tell me your budget and how you actually use a computer, and I'll spec the parts, build it, install Windows or Linux, set up your apps, and tune it before handover.

Will you set up or fix my home Wi-Fi and network?

Yes. Mesh systems, wired drops, dead-zone troubleshooting, slow-speed diagnosis — across the Portland area. If your router is in a closet at one end of the house and your smart TV is at the other, that's a fixable problem.

Do you offer remote tech help?

Yes — for software, email, account, and many networking issues, I can help over the phone or with remote screen sharing. It's often faster and cheaper than an in-home visit.

Are there discounts available?

Yes — for seniors, teachers, nonprofits, and neighbors in a real pinch. Just mention it when you reach out. I'd rather help than nickel-and-dime.
